Overview

The Graphic Designer II has a minimum of 3 years of work experience, meets the qualifications of Graphic Designer, and has additional specialized skills in areas such as print production, publication design, or project management. The Graphic Designer II
must show at least an intermediate level of competency in the areas of typography and layout, and an advanced understanding of photo selection and editing. Additionally, the Graphic Designer II should demonstrate an advanced understanding of file building and printing techniques, and assist in training coworkers who are still developing their expertise in those areas. A Graphic Designer II must be a clear visual communicator with proven strategic thinking, able to articulate and display a maturing graphic design philosophy. Those with this title should be proactive in identifying areas of improvement in all of his or her areas of responsibility.

Responsibilities

Essential

  • Visually communicates the key messages of the company, its brands, and products.
  • Ability to produce work in compliance with existing brand guidelines, and able to guide others with that expertise.
  • Strong understanding of typographic principles.
  • Works collaboratively with writers, photographers, and design team.
  • Project and time management skills.
  • Presents work to Associate Creative Director and Creative Director.
  • Advanced understanding of prepress work, printing processes, and ability to troubleshoot print ready files.
  • Takes ownership of projects.
  • Is a life-long learner, and a relevant, career designer; stays up-to-date on industry standards, trends, and best practices.
  • Sharp attention to detail.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues with files and equipment.

 

Additional

  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
  • Work overtime as needed.

 

                                                                                    Supervision of Others

  • Assist in training coworkers with less advanced skills.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Three to six years of experience as a designer, demonstrating strengths in branding and marketing
  • Strong design portfolio that exhibits not only a passion for high-quality graphic design, but also an understanding of marketing and branding communications.
  • Portfolio work that demonstrates critical thinking skills, both creatively, and strategically.
  • Formal education in graphic design recommended.
  • Competency and experience with the Mac OS and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • 30 wpm typing.
  • Detailed work and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and professionally.
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Communicate (hearing & speech) with individuals in person and by phone.
  • Ability to work under stress.
  • Sit with intermittent walking.
  • Manual dexterity for such duties as stapling, collating, sorting, filing, typing, writing, etc.
  • Visually read reports, computer screen, etc.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities with efficiency and accuracy.

 

Additional

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Graphic Arts preferred.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license.
