Engineer needed to lead product design: Batteries, Battery Management Systems, Chargers
What you'll do:
Meet with new and existing customers to design batteries (select cells, design battery layout, connectors, propose enclosures, etc), select Battery Management System (work with BMS partners to choose existing option or request new design), and support other customer needs (including chargers and other engineering needs). Then work with customers and senior battery engineers to move design to prototype phase, direct prototype testing, and finally help transition to production phases (including quality assurance).
Who we're looking for:
Attributes
We’re looking for someone who is a good communicator and problem solver who can work directly with our customers and lead the design and quoting phase of our business. Needs to be able to work multiple projects at multiple stages simultaneously. Desire to learn and grow (especially at the beginning) is critical as the position will need to quickly transition from being trained to being independent within 2-6 months. Positive attitude and team player personality will mesh well with the current team.
Experience and Interests
Experience with DC electrical systems is a must, ideally with as many of these as possible (but not all required) - basic battery concepts (series and parallel, amps vs volts vs watts, wire gauges, etc), BMS principles (cell balancing, charge management, communication protocols, etc), enclosures (structural, thermal management, etc), and others such as chargers, harnesses, etc.
Skills we're looking for:
Able to perform the below skills, or an ability and willingness to learn these rapidly (within 2-3 months).
Meet with current and potential customers to calculate battery requirements
Use of 3D design software to complete battery layout
Select BMS (Battery Management System)
Complete other needs (enclosure, connectors, etc)
Communicate back and forth with customer to refine design
Work with senior battery engineer in prototype and production phases
Compensation:
Compensation ranges based on immediate skills and experience-
$60K annual salary for a new engineer needing constant support
$90K annual salary for an experienced engineer who is essentially independent
Profit sharing that will result in an additional $50K+ annual as we grow with new business
Full health benefits including health insurance, vision and dental
2 weeks PTO
Other details and requirements:
This position will report directly to the President and Chief Engineer.
Some travel will be required to attend conferences throughout the United States.
