Overview

In this role you will assure sales taxes are accurately paid in a timely manner.  Coordinate the efficient processing of sales tax information and handle all state and customer sales tax correspondence.  Assists with cyclical jurisdictional audits, Form 1099 and unclaimed property compliance as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Pays sales taxes by processing a report of the various states’ sales taxes collected, downloading data to the reporting software, breaking out sales tax by municipality, making and documenting necessary adjustments, completing tax forms, check requests, wire transfers and ACH transactions, organizing and sending returns to appropriate municipality, entering electronic reports to state websites, etc.
  • Coordinates with tax software vendor and IT Department the effective resolution of all system problems or functions including proper taxability of products, problems with the collections or reporting functions, issues identified by tax or other departments, problems brought to light by customers or taxing authorities, etc.
  • Coordinates resolution of all customer inquiries with Business Development Department.
  • Maintains sales tax data on computer by managing new products, monitoring tax rates upon customer inquiry, inputting and tracking sales tax resale and exemption certificates and operating the reporting software.
  • Corresponds with and resolves concerns of taxing authorities (i.e., states, counties, cities).
  • Prepares monthly sales tax journal entries and reconciliations to general ledger accounts.
  • Registers company with new sales tax locations and maintains existing registrations by requesting and completing sales tax license agreements.
  • Maintains sales tax files by municipality.
  • Provides assistance when company is under examination including the coordination, extraction and proper manipulation of detailed transaction data, reviewing taxability of products, providing resale and exemption certificates, etc.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years accounting experience or equivalent.
  • Computer literacy and proficient in use of word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Detailed work and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze problems and create solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and professionally.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and stress.
  • 10 key by touch.
  • Manual dexterity for such duties as stapling, collating, sorting, filing, typing, writing, etc.
  • Communicate (hearing and speech) with individuals in person and by telephone.
  • Visually read reports, computer screen, etc.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities with efficiency and accuracy.
