Job Description

Autism Support Caregiver / Personal Care Assistant/Nanny

Live-In Option Available

Location: Idaho Falls, Idaho

Make a Difference. Build a Relationship. Change a Life.

Our family is looking for a compassionate, dependable, and patient caregiver to become an important part of our support team for our amazing 12-year-old son, Declan.

Declan is nonverbal and autistic with high support needs. He is an affectionate, funny, curious young man who thrives on routine, consistency, and trusted relationships. He enjoys sensory activities, music, car rides, being outdoors, and spending time with people who genuinely care about him. Watching him learn new skills and celebrate even the smallest victories is one of the most rewarding parts of being on his team.

Declan is our only child still living at home, allowing you to focus entirely on providing him with individualized care and support.

Position Overview

We’re looking for someone who is kind, dependable, calm under pressure, and genuinely enjoys helping others. Experience with autism or developmental disabilities is a plus, but we are happy to train the right person.

This position may be especially appealing to college students or recent graduates pursuing careers in Special Education, Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Social Work, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), or Behavioral Health.

Typical Schedule

During the school year, Declan attends school Monday through Friday from approximately 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

During those hours, you are generally free to attend classes, study, work another part-time job, run errands, or enjoy personal time unless other arrangements have been made in advance.

Care responsibilities are primarily before school, after school, evenings as scheduled, weekends, school breaks, and summer months.

We are open to discussing both full-time and part-time schedules with the right candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Declan with his morning routine, including getting dressed and ready for school.
  • Help him safely board the school bus.
  • Administer prescribed medications as directed.
  • Assist with diaper changes and ongoing potty training.
  • Provide attentive supervision while ensuring his safety and well-being.
  • Engage him in sensory activities, play, learning opportunities, and community outings.
  • Help maintain consistent routines and positive transitions throughout the day.
  • Accompany him on walks, outings, or sensory drives when appropriate.
  • Prepare simple meals and snacks for Declan.
  • Complete light housekeeping related to his care, including dishes, laundry, and tidying his activity areas.
  • Maintain open communication with parents regarding his day, accomplishments, behaviors, and any concerns.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Compassionate, patient, dependable, and trustworthy.
  • Calm and confident during challenging behaviors.
  • Willing to learn and follow established routines and care plans.
  • Comfortable providing personal care.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Able to pass a background check.

Experience in childcare, special education, healthcare, behavioral health, ABA, or working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred, but not required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation based on experience, qualifications, and responsibilities.
  • Flexible scheduling.
  • Paid training and ongoing support.
  • Optional live-in opportunity for the right candidate, including a private bedroom and private bathroom in our finished basement, provided rent-free as part of the compensation package.
  • A welcoming, appreciative, and supportive family environment.
  • The opportunity to build a meaningful, long-term relationship with one incredible child and make a lasting difference in his life.

About Our Family

We know this role isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. It requires patience, compassion, flexibility, and consistency. But for the right person, it is an incredibly rewarding opportunity.

We’re not simply looking for someone to watch our son. We’re looking for someone who wants to become a trusted part of his life and an important member of our family’s support team.

If you’re someone who wants your work to have purpose, we’d love to hear from you.

Please send us a message introducing yourself, sharing any relevant experience, your availability, and what interests you about this opportunity.
